Leo Shane spoke by phone about proposed cuts in the Defense Department’s budget. The cuts were announced at the Pentagon on Monday February 24, 2014 by Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair General Martin Dempsey. Some of the proposed changes included a rollback of the Basic Allowance for Housing, cuts to commissary subsidies, and increased health care fees. Mr. Shane argued that many of the proposed cuts in the department’s budget could be contentious issues in in Congress. close
