Fred Hochberg delivered the opening address at the Export-Import Bank of the United States' 2014 Annual Conference at the Omni Shoreham Hotel. The conference focused on export opportunities and challenges for American companies, the role of emerging markets, and the U.S. trade policy agenda. Mr. Hochberg called on Congress to reauthorize the bank before its charter expired in the Fall and added that critics were a “vocal minority.” He explained that the Export-Import Bank provided finance to foreign companies buying U.S.-made goods, but some critics say the lender undermined U.S. companies and was an example of corporate welfare.

The conclusion of a video message from President Obama was seen at the beginning of the program. close
