The United Nations Security Council held a meeting on Russia’s intervention in Ukraine. This was the 13th time the Security Council had met to address the unrest in Ukraine. Security Council members condemned the reports that pro-Russian forces shot down two Ukrainian helicopters and demanded the release of Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) observers being held captive by pro-Russian forces. U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power said Russia is “fooling no one” by suggesting their armed guards are peacekeepers in the region. Russian Ambassador Vitaly Churkin told members it was time for the U.S. to “stop with its destructive policy” toward the Ukrainian people, and argued that the Ukrainian government is illegitimate. close
