Matthew Olsen talked about the threat of ISIS* and al-Qaeda in Iraq, Syria, and the Middle East, and efforts being made by U.S. and international community to curb those threats. He said there was no credible evidence that ISIS was plotting an attack on the U.S, but that the Obama administration was concerned about the threat of foreign fighters originating from the West.

“A Threat Assessment of ISIL and Al Qaeda in Iraq, Syria and Beyond” was an event of the Brookings Institution Intelligence Project, held at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

* The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), or DAISH/DAESH in Arabic is a militant group that has called itself the Islamic State. close
