Professor Bill Pitts talked about the history of the Branch Davidians and the standoff, as well as Charles Pace, a member of the group and Pastor at the Branch Church. In 1993, local and national law enforcement participated in a 51-day standoff and siege of a compound belonging to the Branch Davidians, a religious group based in Elk, Texas, outside Waco. 76 people inside the compound were killed, including the group’s leader, David Koresh.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2014 LCV Cities Tour” in Waco, Texas, from Novermber 3-6 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Time Warner Cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on BookTV on C-SPAN2. close
