The Supreme Court heard oral argument in Reed v. Town of Gilbert, docket number 13-502, on whether a town ordinance limiting the placement of signs, including those posted by a church, violates the free speech clause of the First Amendment and the equal protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. Good News Community Church and its pastor Clyde Reed were challenging the Town of Gilbert, Arizona’s different rules for political, ideological, and directional signs as a violation of the First Amendment.

This program contains the audio recording released by the court. Still images of participants were shown on the screen as they spoke. Justice Thomas did not speak. close
