The Senate by a 57-41 margin failed for a third time to end debate on the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act of 2015 (S. 178). Democrats voted against cloture because of their objections to anti-abortion language contained in the legislation. Before the vote, Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) read extensively from a book on sex trafficking, Half the Sky, by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn.

Republicans refused to allow a vote on confirming Loretta Lynch as attorney general until Democrats allowed a final vote on S. 178. Senator Dick Durbin accused the majority leader of making Loretta Lynch "sit in the back of the bus". close
