Attorney General Lynch began the news conference with comments on the shooting the previous day at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina, in which nine people were killed. She announced a hate crime investigation and urged public cooperation in capturing the suspect. During the news conference she was informed that a suspect had been captured.
