Robert Mullins talked about his book, 12 Monkeys and a Green Jacket, about the history of Lake Olmstead in Augusta, Georgia. Created as a product of the Augusta Canal’s enlargement of 1873, Lake Olmstead was a popular tourist attraction in the early 20th century. After a bacterial contamination led to the lake’s closure, the lake was left ignored and neglected. In his book, Mr. Mullins talks about the community’s response and the lack of awareness of the lake’s history and importance.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2015 LCV Cities Tour” in Augusta, Georgia, from February 21-25 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Comcast Cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2. close
