President George H.W. Bush announced that the European Community has cut its oil seed production in order to prevent a trade war with the United States. Earlier talks on a global free trade agreement had hit an impasse on the United States' demand for a cut in European farm subsidies. U.S Trade Representative Carla Hills and Agriculture Secretary Edward Madigan remained after the president’s remarks to answer questions from reporters. close
