DOD Asst. Secretary Pete Williams briefed reporters in the Pentagon on the U.S. bombing of targets in Iraq earlier in the day, and new information on the investigation into missing U.S. servicemen in Southeast Asia. DOD Secretary Dick Cheney spoke briefly at the beginning of the news briefing to thank the press corps for a good working relationship with the department during his tenure. He did not take questions. This was Mr. Williams' last briefing. In an emotional farewell, he talked about his father’s military service, he praised and thanked the Pentagon press corps, Secretary Cheney, General Powell, their staff, and his own assistants. A CBS reporter asked Mr. Williams to take a seat, and the reporter took the podium and thanked Mr. Williams on behalf the Pentagon press corps. close
