The House Judiciary Committee heard testimony from Attorney General Janet Reno on the actions of the government concerning the siege of an armed religious cult near Waco, Texas last month. The government’s siege of the cult, originally raided for federal weapons violations, ended after 51 days when the cult’s compound burnt to the ground after the FBI attempted to pressure the cult to surrender by the use of tear gas. Some members of the committee questioned Attorney General Reno intensely on the decision-making process that led to the FBI’s use of force against the cult. close
