Secretary of State John Kerry announced in Vienna that Iran had met its obligations under the nuclear agreement reached in 2015 with the U.S., European Union and other world powers, and that nuclear-related economic sanctions against Iran would be lifted. He began by announcing the release of five U.S. prisoners from Iranian custody. He said that although the release of the prisoners was not directly related to the nuclear agreement, the pace and progress of the humanitarian talks were accelerated by the nuclear negotiations. close
