In an excerpt from the session of the U.S. Senate, Senators debated amendments to the campaign finance reform bill. The legislation sought to reform the campaign process through greater public financing of political campaigns as well as campaign spending limits. Senators debated Senator Larry Pressler’s (R-South Dakota) amendment to the bill, which would ban all political action committees from the political process. As it stood, the legislation would ban political action committees only in Senate elections. close
