Christopher Shelton, president of the Communications Workers of America, talked about the tentative strike settlement between CWA workers and Verizon. Almost 40,000 workers walked off the job in April, and returned on June 1, 2016. CWA is a union representing telephone, television and newspaper communications workers. Other topics included the union’s interest in high-speed internet and the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) plans to expand a subsidized program for phones to broadband for lower-income Americans. Mr. Shelton also discussed 2016 politics and the CWA’s support for Senator Bernie Sanders' (I-VT) candidacy for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination. close
