Headlines from the day’s newspapers were read and telephone lines were open for viewer comments on the question: “Should Schools Be Required to Teach Patriotism?” The question was inspired by remarks of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump at the national convention of the American Legion about his desire to see changes to school curricula in an effort to do better job “promoting American pride and patriotism in America’s schools.” A video clip of the September 1, 2016, speech was shown. Andrew Tilghman reported on the issue by telephone.

Katie Bo Williams also reported by telephone about the FBI report released the previous day from the Clinton email investigation. close
