Treasury Secretary Jack Lew and others talked about possible federal, state, and local government solutions to economic inequality. Secretary Lew talked about closing the so-called “racial wealth gap” and the importance of financial literacy. He was followed by other speakers who discussed the financial challenges of people of color and the importance of youth mentoring programs.

The Treasury Department Freedman’s Bank Forum was named in honor of the savings and trust company established in 1865 to assist newly emancipated African Americans. close
