Eric Wittenberg talked about the cavalry action on July 3rd at the 1863 Battle of Gettysburg. He described the fighting on East Cavalry Field and argued against the theory that Confederate Gen. J.E.B. Stuart had orders to try to get around the Union flank. Instead, he suggested that Stuart was supposed to protect the Confederate flank.

This was a session of the 19th Annual Conference on the Art of Command in the Civil War. close
