State Dinner for Italian Prime Minister

Former White House Social Secretary Julianna Smoot joined C-SPAN for coverage of a White House state dinner for Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and his wife, Agnese Landini. It was President Obama’s the 13th and final state dinner. She talked about the dinner and the history of the last eight years of Obama administration dinners, including making the guest list, seating arrangements, food, decorations, and fashion. Video included the gown the first lady wore to each dinner and clips of all of President Obama’s past toasts. Live scenes included portions of the arrivals of guests and President and Mrs. Obama greeting the guests of honor. Also shown were the official photograph at the grand staircase and the program concluded by showing the joint toasts at the dinner.

Included were previously taped interviews with Italian Ambassador Armando Varricchio and Washington Post fashion critic Robin Givhan as well as the dinner preview with White House Social Secretary Deesha Dyer. close
