An 80-foot Engelmann Spruce tree from the Payette National Forest in Idaho arrived at the West Front of the U.S. Capitol to serve as the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree. The tree was harvested near McCall, Idaho, on November 2, 2016, and made the 3,743 mile journey from Idaho, stopping in communities along the way, before it reached the U.S. Capitol. Once secured in the ground, the tree would be decorated with over 18,000 handmade ornaments, with a “re-use and recycle” theme, representing Idaho symbols.

The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree lighting ceremony would be held Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at 5 p.m. ET on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. close
