Borderline Citizens

Robert McGreevey talked about his book Borderline Citizens: The US, Puerto Rico, and the Politics of Colonial Law and Migration, 1998-1948, in which he examines some of the challenges the people of Puerto Rico faced as they fought for full rights as U.S. citizens. In December of 1898, the Treaty of Paris was signed bringing an official end to the Spanish-American War. As part of that treaty, the island of Puerto Rico was ceded to the United States from Spain.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2017 LCV Cities Tour” in Trenton, New Jersey, from April 15-21 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Comcast cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2. close
