Researchers from NASA and its partner universities were panelists speaking at a briefing on the science behind the total solar eclipse expected on August 21, 2017, the first total solar eclipse visible in the U.S. since 1979, and the first visible from coast-to-coast in 99 years. They talked about ways NASA plans to capture images of the eclipse, including through the use of camera-equipped weather balloons, as well as the various climate, atmospheric, and wildlife research that would be taking place during the eclipse. close
