Senate Minority Leader Robert Dole and other Senate Republicans spoke in a news conference to criticize the Clinton administration’s budget reconciliation bill, which had been reported out of the Senate Finance Committee earlier in the day in a party line vote. The senators disputed the spending cuts in the administration’s budget bill, saying most of the spending cuts were actually reductions in projected spending, and that the bill as passed contains a great deal more tax increases than spending cuts. close
