The Senate Intelligence Committee held a confirmation hearing for John Demers, President Trump’s nominee to be the assistant attorney general for national security. Some of the areas discussed included the reauthorization of a surveillance law, known as Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), and warrant requirements by the government for collecting data. Mr. Demers previously worked in the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel before moving to its national security division. close
