Three Democratic Senate leaders and Vice President Al Gore spoke in a news conference following the Senate vote to pass the budget reconciliation act. The act, which contained the deficit reduction initiatives of the Clinton administration’s economic plan, passed by a margin of one vote. The vice president cast the deciding vote in his role as President of the Senate. The speakers in the news conference discussed the importance of the passage of the bill in the Senate, and the upcoming conference negotiations to reconcile the House and Senate versions of the bill.
