The House Rules Committee met to consider a rule for legislation to extend government funding through January 19, 2018, as well as disaster relief funding for states struck by wildfires and hurricanes. Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD) and Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair Michelle Lujan Grisham (D-NM) testified in favor of an amendment that would have included the DREAM Act as part of the continuing resolution. The DREAM Act would extend residency protections to undocumented immigrants who came or were brought to the U.S. as children. That amendment, however, failed, and was not added to the legislation. The overall rule for the two bills passed out of the committee by an 8-4 party-line vote. close
