The U.N. Security Council held an emergency meeting at the request of the U.S. to discuss the ongoing political protests in Iran. U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley said the U.S. “stands unapologetically with those in Iran who seek freedom for themselves....” She added, “The Iranian regime is now on notice. The world will be watching what you do.” The U.N. assistant secretary-general for political affairs and the Iranian ambassador to the U.N. were invited to speak at the session. The Iranian ambassador said his government had “hard evidence” that the protests were directed from abroad and that the U.S. was abusing its power as a permanent member of the Security Council. close
