New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu (D) addressed the opening session of the U.S. Conference of Mayors Winter Meeting. He said the conference of over 1,400 mayors would not be intimidated or divided by federal leaders in Washington, D.C., including President Trump, and that he and his fellow mayors would “continue to define what is great about America.” Following his opening remarks, and remarks from host Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) of Washington, D.C., Mayor Landrieu joined a panel discussion about civil rights and economic opportunities in U.S. cities. Just before the conference broke for lunch, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel (D) spoke about changes to education policy his administration was instituting in Chicago. close
