President Clinton, Vice President Gore, and members of the Clinton cabinet spoke in a news conference to announce the introduction of the Clinton administration’s policies concerning the forests of the Pacific Northwest. The president said the plan provided both preservation of old-growth forests and the accompanying wildlife while providing sufficient timber for harvesting and sustaining the economy of towns in the Pacific Northwest. The policy is the outcome of the process that began with the “forest summit” earlier in the Clinton administration. close
