Legal experts previewed Supreme Court oral argument in National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (NIFLA) v. Becerra, which the high court was to hear on March 20, 2018. The case concerns California’s abortion disclosure law. NIFLA challenged its constitutionality, saying it violates the First Amendment and free speech rights. Under the Reproductive Freedom, Accountability, Comprehensive Care, and Transparency Act, crisis pregnancy centers licensed to perform medical procedures must tell patients that abortions are an available option. These centers are “pro-life” and counsel patients against abortion. close
