The Senate Judiciary Committee held a business meeting to consider the Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act. Committee Chair Chuck Grassley (R-IA) confirmed his committee would vote the following week on the legislation to protect Special Counsel Robert Mueller, despite opposition from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). Senator Grassley stated, “Obviously the views of the majority leader are important to consider, but they do not govern what happens here in the Judiciary Committee.” During the meeting, members also voted on several judicial nominations and approved legislation aimed to protect religiously-affiliated institutions. close
