The Senate Special Aging Committee held a hearing on combatting scams that target the elderly. With an aging population and new technology at fraudsters' disposal, seniors have become increasingly vulnerable to financial schemes and scams that cost seniors about $2.9 billion each year. The committee heard testimony from the daughter of fraud victims, a state attorney general, a law enforcement official and a consultant with the Justice Department on how the federal government can better work with state and local stakeholders to address these schemes. close
