    1862 Battle of Secessionville

    Dan Welch discussed the 1862 Battle of Secessionville, a Union attempt to wrest control of nearby Tower Battery from the Confederate Army. Controlling this area meant access to Charleston, South Carolina, an indispensable Confederate port city.
