Clayton City, Georgia and Altitude Express, Inc v. Zarda, concerning whether federal civil rights law protects against sexual orientation employment discrimination. Gerald Bostock, a gay child welfare services coordinator, was allegedly let go for “conduct unbecoming of its employees.” He filed a discrimination complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and against the county. His legal team argued that the county violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which bars against discrimination because of sex, and therefore also discrimination against LGBTQ workers. Donald Zarda, an Altitude Express sky diving instructor, filed a suit alleging he was fired because of his sexual orientation after revealing he was gay to a client.

The Supreme Court heard oral argument for two consolidated cases, Bostock v. Clayton City, Georgia and Altitude Express, Inc v. Zarda, concerning whether federal civil rights law protects against sexual orientation employment discrimination.
