In his weekly news conference following party lunches, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) laid out a tentative timeline of how the Senate impeachment trial of President Trump might proceed. He said the Senate could begin preliminary steps as soon as that week, possibly including having Chief Justice John Roberts swear in senators as jurors. The majority leader said he expected to hold a vote on the rules package governing the Senate trial the following Tuesday. Additionally, Senator McConnell said the Senate planned on passing the U.S.-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) trade agreement later in the week. close
