Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum curator Dorothy Cochrane used images to discuss the life and legacy of record-setting aviator Amelia Earhart; the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, and the first to fly solo across the United States. She also discussed some of the theories behind Earhart’s 1937 disappearance while attempting a 29,000 mile flight around the world. The Smithsonian Associates hosted this event. close
