President Trump and members of the White House Coronavirus Task Force held a briefing on the federal government’s response to the pandemic. The president announced a 60-day, temporary suspension of immigration into the United States, saying that this would “help put unemployed Americans first in line for jobs as America reopens,” and that “it would be wrong and unjust for Americans laid off by the virus to be replaced by new immigrant labor flown in from abroad.” Also during the briefing, Dr. Deborah Birx gave an update on the metropolitan areas that had previously given them concern, such as New Orleans, Houston, Philadelphia, and Detroit, and that they are all seem to be showing improvement and flattening the curve. However, the Washington, D.C., area had yet to show a decline in its coronavirus numbers. close
