White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin spoke briefly with the press after meeting with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to negotiate another round of COVID-19 relief. Though they said they have made some progress on aspects of the deal, they were still not close to a full deal. If a deal was not able to be reached, Secretary Mnuchin said the president would consider taking executive actions.

Also, Speaker Pelosi called the meeting “consequential” and that “we have always said that the Republicans and the president do not understand the gravity of the situation.” She went on to criticize the Republican plan, saying, “what they were offering us was Sophie’s Choice. Not enough money for food. Nothing for housing in terms of rentals…not enough money in the pockets of the American people,” later calling their deal “anorexic.” close
