Journalist and author Cameron McWhirter and historian Saje Mathieu discussed what is known as the “Red Summer” of 1919, a months-long period of racial unrest and violence against African Americans -- including World War I veterans -- in multiple cities and states. The National World War I Museum and Memorial, National Archives at Kansas City, and Greater Kansas City Black History Study Group co-hosted this event.
