The Brookings Institution hosted a virtual discussion, which explored the importance of the CIA in predicting crises like COVID-19. Author Chris Whipple spoke about his recently released book, The Spymasters: How the CIA Directors Shape History and the Future. He talked about warnings in the 2019 World Wide Threat Assessment, which predicted a deadly pandemic, and Mr. Whipple contrasted the intelligence regarding the coronavirus to that of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The conversation also included discussion of the intelligence surrounding weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, and the killings of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani and terrorist Imad Mughniyeh. close
