The House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Commerce held a hearing on children’s internet safety during the coronavirus pandemic. Online consumer advocates called on Congress to update the Child Online Protection Act of 1998 (COPA), which restricted companies from targeting advertisements to children 13 and under. School choice advocates encouraged reopening schools, citing a lack of evidence that the virus spreads in schools and the negative consequences of online education. close
