Public defenders and criminal justice reform advocates testified on ways to improve pretrial practices at a virtual House Judiciary subcommittee hearing. Among the witnesses testifying were Innocence Project co-founder Barry Scheck, criminal defense attorney Reuben Camper Cahn, Texas death row exoneree Anthony Graves, and June Rodgers, whose son Christian was murdered in 2017. Subcommittee members asked witnesses about the incarceration rates involving minorities, the cash bail system, the impact of pretrial detention on juveniles, and ways to reduce wrongful convictions. close
