Tax policy experts and reform advocates testified before two House Ways and Means subcommittees at a joint hearing on U.S. tax disparities. Witnesses included Mark Mazur, deputy assistant treasury secretary for tax policy; Doug O’Donnell, IRS deputy commissioner for enforcement; and Nina Olson, former IRS national taxpayer advocate. Several topics were discussed, including the need for staffing increases, information technology and cybersecurity modernization, increased costumer service, racial equity in tax policy, sustained funding for the IRS, and the recent leak of personal tax information of the wealthiest in the nation, which raised concerns over data security and confidence in the IRS. close
