The Senate Homeland Security Subcommittee on Government Operations and Border Management held a virtual hearing on improving security, travel, and trade at port of entry along the U.S.-Mexico. Witnesses included border security and trade experts, including former Trump administration acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan. They discussed several topics, including the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the economy of border towns, modernizing the ports of entry for faster processing, addressing personnel morale and staffing shortages at Customs and Border Patrol, and the need to reopen the borders to travel in order to spur economic growth. close
