They talked about selecting a new chief of the Capitol Police Board, a revision of procedures and standards, more collaboration with other agencies, enhanced training, and an increase in recruitment and transparency. The witnesses also spoke about the need to update aging infrastructure and enhance cybersecurity, and lessons learned from other incidents such as recent protests by truck drivers in Ottawa, Canada. Senators Jack Reed (D-RI) and Mike Braun (R-IN), the respective chair and ranking member of the Legislative Branch Subcommittee, were the only senators who questioned Mr. Blanton and Ms. Gibson.
