Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) spoke to reporters following a failed Senate vote on an abortion rights bill. They entreated voters to cast votes for “pro-choice” Democratic candidates in the 20220 midterm elections in order to protect abortion rights. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) voted with all Republicans leading to a 49-51 final vote, with needed 60 votes to advance the bill. The Senate took up the measure after a leaked Supreme Court draft opinion indicated a majority of the justices would overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade abortion rights ruling. close
