“History matters,” said President Biden during remarks at the White House’s screening of the 2022 film Till, which tells the story of Emmett Till, a 14-year-old African American boy from Chicago who died from a lynching while visiting family in Mississippi in 1955. The president spoke on the importance of the film, saying it “tells the story of a mother’s loss, and a young son’s promise, and a nation’s reckoning about hate, violence and power.” The film screening was part of the White House’s celebrations of Black history month. close
