President Clinton briefed the media on his meeting with President Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan. The two leaders discussed several topics including the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty; increased U.S. aid for Kazakhstan; trade and investment between the United States and Kazakhstan; the charter on the democratic partnership between the two nations; and U.S.-Kazakhstan agreements on scientific cooperation, space, defense conversion, investment protection, and other areas. Media questions focused on the use of airstrikes against Bosnia, Kazakhstan’s integration into NATO, the proposed pipeline between Kazakhstan and Iran, and possible U.S. trade sanctions against Japan. close
