President Bill Clinton addressed members of the press while in Newport News, Virginia. He advised that some progress had occurred in the negotiations between the United Nations and the Serbs. The President said that the Serbs released 16 Canadian soldiers, and that the United States continued work on the release of the other UNPROFOR forces. The President took questions on the U.S. role in the negotiations with the Serbs, whether there have been any violations of the new truce since the agreement, whether military action remained possible, and the status of economic sanctions against the Serbs. close
