The President stressed that the Bill should include provisions for putting 100,000 additional police officers on the streets, for banning assault weapons, and for instituting “three strikes and you’re out” for repeat violent offenders. In addition, the President called for provisions that help the states build more prisons, that institute boot camps for first-time offenders, that set up drug courts for drug abusers, and that establish constructive recreational activity for young people.
